California Day 1 - Sonoma County

Today has honestly been one of the most amazing days of my entire life. I am in love with California.

Yesterday Pax and I flew into San Francisco and I was wow'd by all the amazing architecture and "film" like qualities of the city. I can honestly say that living in that city would totally be something I would be down with. We didn't get in the city until last last night, so I didn't have much time to take photos for this post, but I will have all of this coming Sunday in the city so stay tuned for pictures soon of San Fran.

This morning we met up with the rest of our media/sommelier group to begin our California trip. We hopped on a bus and started to head out of the city. We are spending the weekend with people such as Taylor Thompson, Sommelier from Reds, Jamie Drummond, Sommelier from Jamie Kennedy Wine Bar and Chris Waters, Editor of Vines Magazines.
Today and Tomorrow (Monday & Tuesday) are dedicated to Sonoma County - did you know that Sonoma has many sub-appellations and mainly focuses on Chardonnay and Pinot Noir? And then on Wednesday we are all head to Napa Valley and then we get to head back to San Fran to spend Saturday at ZAP. Today we spent time tasting over 35 wines and winemakers from many Sonoma Wineries and eating lots of awesome food.

The best part is that the weather has been very cooperative and although it isn't "hot" per se, at least there isn't any snow! As you can see from the picture below and to your left, the sky is beautiful and the land is lush and green, even though there are no full vineyards.

Last night we stayed at the Orchard Garden Hotel in San Fran and tonight we are staying at Hotel Healdsburg (one of the most gorgeous hotels I have ever stayed at). Today was a long day - it started at 6:30am and ended well about now (12:30am) but I am really looking forward to the rest of the week.

Stay Tuned for more updates, photos and videos coming soon! (The pictures to your left was taken at Gundlach Bundschu Winery (www.gunbun.com) - a very beautiful winery!
