Sauntering through Sante!
"International Stylz"

One really great thing about my job is the fact that unlike the rest of the population I am allowed to drink wine all day long and no one gives me any funny looks or a pink slip for being tipsy on a Monday! The week of Sante was that kind of week. With wine events all day everyday, it sure brightened up my first week of May!

Now I did manage to do quite a few things that week that were wine related. One of the major events that I went to was the "International Tasting" at the Carlu (at College and Yonge). Now I had never been to the Carlu, but what a space it is. It was huge and there were lots of people enjoying international vino. The tasting had over 250 different wines from around the world that were available to taste. So... as I'm sure you can guess, it was quite the evening of wine "tasting". Now some people spit when they try their wines, but I don't do that. Other than the fact that is looks down right disgusting, it just isn't in my values to do such a thing. In fact, if I were a winemaker (and I do know many) I wouldn't want anyone to waste my wine. After all the hard work of a 365 days a year job, and most times working 24 hours a day, the best way to support any great winemaker is to give them the pleasure of completely trying their wines, all the way into your veins. That is how I love to drink wine. So my wine tastings usually end at about 20 or so wines. By that point I should be very happy and I make many a winemaker happy by truly "tasting" their wine!

Anyway, my point is that at the International Tasting I tried about 12 or so wines. I did have some favourites that is for sure. Some of the wines that I tried were Virgin Vines, which was nothing quintessential or ground breaking, but good none the less. I also tried these Greek Wines that tasted like candy, and that was at about 10 or so. I ended up seeing Steve, who I know, who was at the Greek wine booth was pouring me Greek wine and telling me all about Greek Wine. If there are a grapes in the world that are hard to pronounce Greece has them!! ha ha.But my oh my, DELICIOUS!!!

There was one wine that really made a great impression on me. The wine is called Menage at Trois and it is called that because it is a blend of three different types grapes all mixed to make the 1 perfect bottle of Manage a Trois. There was a Menage a Trois Red and a white. It is a California wine, from Napa Valley, and they have a pretty cool website too!
I need at least a case of this wine, what a great conversation breaker at any party!! But the most horrible part about this wine is that it isn't available until 2009. Now come on... how dare anyone tempt me with a Menage a Trois that I have to wait over 9 months for. That is the worst foreplay I have ever heard of!!!

But over all Sante was full of some really great events, I know that Pax went to a few, as did I and we are really looking forward to next year!
